The standard size for a UK business card is 85mm x 55mm, this is also the generally accepted size in northern European countries such as Germany, Switzerland and France. Whilst many companies adopt these dimensions, it is conditional on general taste and requirements.
The standard size of business cards in northern American countries such as the United States and Canada is 88.9mm x 50.8mm, this seems like a very odd measurement but the reason for this is the size has been converted from inches (3.5 x 2 inches).
In the far east countries such as China, Singapore and Malaysia use a standard size of 90mm x 54mm, while the accepted wisdom is that a standard business card in Japan is trimmed to 91mm x 55mm.
As we move onto the countries of eastern Europe such as Croatia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, we find that visiting cards tend to be trimmed to a size of 90mm x 55mm.
In Australia things can be a little more strict, to comply with ISO/IEC 7810 business cards are generally trimmed to a size of 85.60mm x 53.98mm
